Snus is a tobacco product from Scandinavia that is placed under the upper lip as a portion pouch. The EU bans the sale of tobacco for oral use – the only exception is Sweden, which secured this rule when it joined the EU in 1995. In Germany, snus may therefore not be sold, either in shops or online. Possessing or using snus, however, is not a criminal offence.
